On Monday, January 16, 2023, Nolan music-produced this annual MLK birthday commemoration, co-presented by Georgetown University and The Kennedy Center. The 2023 Let Freedom Ring concert featured Tony and Grammy winner Leslie Odom, Jr. along with the Let Freedom Ring Choir and NEWorks Band.
Nolan is being honored with a 2024 Living Legends Award in recognition of his career of social justice activism through the arts. Established in 2006, previous honorees include the late Congressman John Lewis, Congresswoman Maxine Waters, former President of Spellman College Johnetta B. Cole, and journalist Juan Williams.

"Becoming Douglass Commonwealth," the documentary Nolan produced, co-wrote, and directed last year through his company, NEWorks Productions, was recently awarded a 2023 Communicator Award of Excellence and 2023 Anthem Awards Silver Prize for Best Human & Civil Rights Film. This raises the total prizes won to ten, including seven 2022 Telly Awards and a 2022 Davey Award.
Presented by Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and produced by NEWorks Productions, "Becoming..." chronicles the long and complicated history of D.C.’s fight for full democracy featuring members of Congress, city officials (past and present), business leaders, and more. The documentary has aired, to date, in five CBS east coast markets and on DCTV.

His focal project has been the development of STIRRING THE WATERS ACROSS AMERICA, his theatrical concert production that highlights seminal moments of the modern Civil Rights Movement from 1954 to 1968. Featuring the works of emerging photographers, D.C. Home Rule 50 is currently mounted in the West Gallery of the DC History Center.
In commemoration of DC Emancipation Day, Nolan and his NEWorks Productions recently produced Mayor Muriel Bowser's Full Democracy Champions Luncheon. The event was organized by the Secretary of State of the District of Columbia, Kimberly Bassett, hosted by Symone Sanders-Townsend, Co-Host of MSNBC's "The Weekend," and featured The Honorable Max Frost, U.S. House of Representatives, as keynote speaker.

Curated and co-conducted by Nolan and Scott Tucker, the Washington Douglass Chorale’s spring concert grappled with the issues of equity and inclusion. With music ranging from Dorothy Rudd Moore and Damien Geter to William Billings and Aaron Copland, a special highlight of the program was the world premiere of a newly commissioned work, “Suite Freedom for All,” conceived by Nolan and composed by Washington, D.C.’s own Allyn Johnson in commemoration of the 125th anniversary of the birth of American composer and jazz pioneer Duke Ellington.

"Rise Up & Fight" has won a 2025 Silver Prize for Best Human & Civil Rights Special Project.
This 38-minute documentary is a brief introduction to the music, themes and history of GRACE, centered around a gathering of friends convened by Sheila C. Johnson, Chef Carla Hall and Nolan Williams, Jr.
