Four diverse musical families from the Washington metropolitan region — our 'local von Trapps': the CHONG family, the OTTLEY family, the LEYVA family, and the DAVIES family — performed classical, jazz, Hispanic, holiday and inspirational music for this concert in support of the NSO Pops concert, The von Trapps & Stephanie J. Block Family Holiday.

NEWorks Productions and the March on Washington Film Festival, in association with the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and Washington National Opera, presented a private screening of Cry, the Beloved Country, the acclaimed 1995 movie adapted from Alan Paton's classic same-titled book. This screening was hosted by His Excellency Mninwa Johannes Mahlangu, Ambassador of South Africa to the United States. A community discussion followed, moderated by Dr. Greg Carr, Associate professor of African Studies and Chair of the Department of Afro-American Studies, Howard University.

Prince; the NEWorks Freedom Dancers (choreographed by Erica Stotts) and Simunye Dance Ensemble
